Impotency, Low Libido, and Premature Ejaculation

Sometimes impotency encompasses all sexual dysfunction while it also is a term that describes specifically erectile dysfunction. Other common problems that men have that fall under impotency include premature ejaculation and low libido.

With that in mind you may want to understand a little bit about what these various types of sexual problems mean. That is, what they mean to a man who may seek treatment for these issues.

Low Libido

This can simply be defined as a decreased interested in sex. It also is known as a “low sex drive.” A man who has a low libido cannot become aroused visually, such as when he sees an attractive woman (assuming he is heterosexual).

He also cannot become stimulated very easily when someone touches him. He may not even become aroused when touched in the penis or the nipples. Smells and sounds that normally would cause a man to become aroused would also not affect him if he has a low libido.

Premature Ejaculation

You may have heard about a man ‘coming too soon.” This means that he almost immediately ejaculates when trying to have sexual intercourse. If not immediately then maybe within a minute or two of doing so he may ejaculate.

However, just prematurely ejaculation once in awhile does not make a man impotent. Impotency would be frequent premature ejaculation and/or inability to get or hold an erection.

Common reasons for premature ejaculation include the following:

Maybe a man has not ever had sex or he has not had sex in a long time. This could lead to overexcitement that makes it too easy for him to come.

Premature ejaculation may take place in a man who is used to having to perform intercourse under time constraints. For instance, maybe he has a house full of kids and he and his wife work full time.

Stress and excessive masturbation can also lead to premature ejaculation. This may be temporary but it could lead to permanent impotency when a man is older.

Erectile Dysfunction

This is a situation in which a man either has a very weak erection where is penis is not completely hard or he may not get an erection at all. If he does he may not be able to hold the erection long enough to even ejaculate or continue sexual intercourse until his partner orgasms.

Erectile dysfunction is often used as a synonym for impotency. It is perhaps the most severe of all sexual problems in a male.
